Domain Names Explained

Domain names are used in email addresses and/or to identify particular Web pages.

So in the email address info@joeltd.co.uk the domain name is joeltd.co.uk.

And the website address for joeltd.co.uk would be www.joeltd.co.uk.

It's not possible to 'own' a domain name but you can register it for your exclusive use for a number of years. At the end of your registration you can renew it as many times as you like. No-one can ever use your domain name unless or until you choose not to renew it.

You don't have to use your registered domain name straight away if you don't need to. But knowing the domain name you want and registerng it now means no-one else can beat you to it!

And just to make sure noone else uses the domain name you want, register it in it's various formats eg:

ABC-organisation.co.uk

ABC-organisation.com

ABC-organisation.org

ABC-organisation.biz

ABC-organisation.co
